History:

 

The city of Chopta is also known as Chopta valley. It is located in North Sikkim. The city is a popular tourist destination. The city is one of the ideal places in India where it is possible to attain celestial charisma.

 

Geography and climate:

 

The city is situated at an altitude of 4,000 metres or 13,200 feet above sea level. The city is one of the most beautiful places in Sikkim. The Chopta valley is close to Thangu. The valley has rich alpine vegetation along with blooming orchids, rhododendrons and other high-altitude vegetation. There are various meandering rivers which crisscross each other at distances. The city is isolated from the crowded tourist hot spots. Due to the various twisty rivets it is almost impossible to access certain parts of it. The frozen rivers can be walked on during the winters. Winters are very cold here with snowfall at higher altitudes. Summers are cool and pleasant and provide the ideal time for trekking.

 

Tourism:

 

The valley is one of the most beautiful tourist locations. It has a colourful turbulence of flowers. The Valley also provides the perfect route towards Muguthang Valley which is also located in North Sikkim. Trekking facilities are available from Chopta Valley to Muguthang Valley, which is at an altitude of about 15,500 ft. This valley provides an excellent view of the snow-covered peaks, meandering rivers and alpine flowers. Apart from trekking, just walking in the valley and having a lazy day, soaking in the sun, are the ideal activities here.

 

Culture:

 

Local tribes welcome the tourists but also prefer their isolated yet interesting lifestyles. The local folk dances can be arranged for through the resorts. The local food here is consists of steamed but spicy dishes like momo's. Various nomadic tribes dwell these areas. The local handicrafts can be availed through small shop owners.

 

Economy:

 

The main source of income here is agriculture since the region is rich in vegetation and plants. Tourism has also become one of the major income sources for the locals with many homes being provided as guest houses during the peak seasons. The best time to visit the valley is between October to December for those who love the snow and March to May for those who cannot bear the winter chill.

 

Transportation:

 

The best way to reach the Chopta valley is through road. The capital of the state, Gantok, has regular provisions for buses to the region. The nearest airport is the Bagdogda airport near Silliguri. The nearest, major railway station is New Jalpaiguri which is connected to major Indian cities. Tours are also organised in these areas.
